Indonesia, until next time!

.*

It's been 1 year and 2 months ago since my traveller's life began. Today I say goodbye to Indonesia after almost a month of travelling in this country. The trip had a bumpy beginning but it ended perfectly. Thank you to all the indonesians I met. Thank you for taking care of me, making my trip go smoothly, making me part of their families and friends, for sharing their culture and their lifestyles with me. I haven't seen all the volcanoes, temples, mountains or waterfalls any tourist would have rather seen but I shared endless coffees, conversations, walks, rides, movies, meals and laughs... I leave this country with a smile on my face, knowing that I tried my best to live as an indonesian and, the best of it all is that I can always come back and be welcomed with open arms. Terima Kasih! (thank you!)
Now it is time to experience Thailand... second stop in South East Asia.

Street Art in Ubud, Bali

Indonesia, baby ;)

.*

Hello, everybody! It's been a while. I am writing from a hotel in Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia. I am not in New Zealand anymore. I said goodbye to that amazing country full of beautiful people and beautiful places. It's been an amazing year. I've grown and learnt A LOT. It was my first year as a traveller... a year since the beginning of a brand new life. I took a lot of pictures which you can see on my Facebook profile which I've been updating more frequently than this blog (oops!). This is my profile: https://www.facebook.com/Celes.Nyx . I've uploaded pictures and videos as well.

So, for the past 3 weeks I've been travelling around Indonesia. So far I've been to three islands: Bali, Lombok and now, Java. I will only visit these three because I don't have more time here.
I Couchsurfed three times and got to meet locals who showed me their culture, lifestyle, food and music. Indonesian hospitality is amazing. I had a hard time when I arrived because the hotspots for tourists are pure chaos. Tourism definitely destroys culture and drains it from its identity. Whatever you hope to find in these places will be a lie. So I would advice you to hang out with locals during your travels. Couchsurfing is a great website to meet locals =) check it out. Anyway, yes! I followed my own advice and met amazing people. I gave Bali a second chance and it was the best decision, I climbed up the beautiful Ijen volcano at night, saw blue lava and a stunning sunrise. I surfed, partied, discovered new fruits and vegetables, ate more spicy food in 3 weeks than in my whole life, learnt heaps about Indonesia, got scared by the crazy traffic here, learnt some Indonesian, travelled endless hours jumping from island to island and all the way back!

It's been a crazy trip and this is just the beginning! Right now I am saying goodbye to Indonesia and getting ready for the second country in South East Asia: Thailand =)
